Welcome

Thanks for registering for the HarperCollins BookSmash Challenge! We're very much looking forward to seeing how you re-imagine reading and book discovery and create apps that engage audiences in new ways.

Potential participants: read on and kick off your submission today! Apps are due September 5, 2013. Make readers fall in love with books all over again, and lead reluctant readers to just the right story.

Quick-start guide
  1. Get inspired. Explore app ideas in the HarperCollins App Idea Bank and see which author innovators have made their full works available for the challenge.

  2. Apply for an API key. And get acquainted with the HarperCollins OpenBook API by visiting the OpenBook API Developer pages.

  3. Brainstorm. How do you envision engaging readers? What sort of app might inspire readers to fall in love with books? Share your ideas or talk it out with other challenge participants by joining or creating a topic in the discussion forum.

  4. Enter your submission. Start filling out your submission early so that you don't feel rushed on deadline day. Even if you don't have all the details yet, you can always take advantage of the "Save as Draft" option and come back to your work later.

Eligible technologies include: fully functioning software or proof of concept apps for Android, Blackberry, iOS or Windows Phone smartphones or tablets, web or mobile web browsers, or Windows or Mac desktop computers.

Earn prizes, recognition, and exposure

The best submissions will be in the running to win a share of $25,000 in cash and recognition from HarperCollins.
